Mono Lake, California By Aaron Johnson, Joel Anderson, 2109
- Mono Lake, California
Formed at least 760,000 years ago, Mono Lake is one of the oldest lakes in the United States. The lake was actually at risk of being drained when the city of Los Angeles began diverting water from streams feeding the lake. But the Mono Lake Committee formed and won a legal battle, forcing the city to cease diversion of critical streams. Now, the lake has been partially replenished and continues to provide a habitat for millions of plants and animals. Inspired by that story and by the ancient beauty of a lake hundreds of thousands of years old, Anderson Design Group handcrafted vintage travel poster art of the lake, a mysterious and welcoming rendition of the lake at dusk. To learn more about the lake and the conservation efforts taken to preserve it, visit the website for the California Department of Parks and Recreation.
